Nha Trang offers a variety of activities for a short break. You can join a boat party of tourists for a ‘fun’ visit to some of the islands. The beach is long, busy in front of the town but almost deserted further away. There are good diving facilities and reasonable coral and marine life – we usually direct visitors to the PADI 5-star Rainbow Diving Centre. There are many restaurants along the beach offering good Vietnamese and international food. A ten-minute taxi drive takes you to the Thap Ba hot spring spa – you can wallow in mud, shower in spring water, and bathe in a large hot mineral water swimming pool set in beautiful gardens for just over $3 – cheap at ten times the price!

In the afternoon, you’ll cruise ride around the Colonial Quarter in a cyclo to discover the city’s architectural mixture of French colonial style, social realism (mostly public buildings – designed or influenced by the USSR), pagodas and communal houses with many Chinese features, merchants’ residences, ‘tube’ dwellings, modern buildings and vernacular houses. After lunch, you’ll call in at the serene Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest in Hanoi, on the banks of Hanoi’s Ho Tay (West) Lake. The center of Hanoi, including Hoan Kiem Lake, the Ngoc Son temple and the bustling Old Quarter, is a magnet for visitors – it’s noisy and hectic, but definitely a ‘must-see’ attraction. The Old Quarter is a maze of shopping streets and restaurants with a hopscotch of architecture – traditional tube houses, religious buildings, artisans’ workshops and cottages, colonial houses and modern concrete edifices. You’ll spend the night in Hanoi.
We’ll arrange your program to avoid the busy times at popular destinations, but if there’s anything you particularly want to see, let us know
