Having lived in Hue for a long time and having tasted many kinds of Hue food, I have to say that nowhere in Vietnam has the diversity of food like Hue city. Hue is not only famous for its beautiful architecture and landscapes such as the CitadelPerfume river, Thien Mu pagoda, Tam Giang lagoon,.. but also for its cuisine. It’s Hue food that somewhat creates Hue own beauty. Coming to Hue but missing tasting these dishes is a great regret. Besides some famous and popular dishes such as Bun Bo Hue ( Hue beef noodle soup), Bun Hen ( mussel noodles), Loc cake ,… which are favorite foods of Hue people, there are other special foods attractive not only for the local people but also for tourists traveling to Hue city.

2. Bánh ướt thịt heo quay (Steamed rice rolls with roast pork)

On the way from Hue to Da nang, especially after you finish Bach Ma national park tour in Hue, you will have a chance to enjoy a special food called ” Bánh ướt thịt heo quay ” or Steamed rice rolls with roast pork in Mr.s Suu restaurant. Every day, the restaurant is open from 9 a.m. to  7 p.m. to serve tourists. Five flavors of sour, spicy, salty, sweet, and fatty together fit in one dish. Although Steamed rice roll has now been very popular in Hue, Steamed rice rolls with roast pork here still brings a very special taste that if having a chance to enjoy it, surely you’ll remember its taste forever. With this delicious dish and suitable price 50,000 for each pax, this restaurant is always crowded. Steamed rice roll is not really Hue own dish, but what Hue people make it makes up the brand to the former capital. This is a special dish that visitors can not ignore when visiting Hue.

 3. Chè bột lọc bọc thịt quay

At night, when the sun sets, Hue city becomes very quiet and peaceful. It’s time to go along Tran Hung Dao street, and enjoy one of the most famous sweet soups of the ancient city. At least, there are 30 kinds of sweet soup in Hue, but the most special and well-known one that people often remind when talking about Hue is Chè bột lọc bọc thịt quay.

As a unique sweet soup of Hue ancient city, this dish is a combination of the flavor of salty and fatty pork, the sweetness of sugar, and aromatic scents of ginger, which creates a very special flavor and makes it very difficult to forget.  Basically, the recipe to make this dish is similar to ordinary ones. What creates the unique and the biggest difference is the inside of each ball of flour, a ball of roast pork instead of a roasted peanut. With great creativity, Hue people made this dish become  “very Hue”. And of course, this strange sweet soup always ranks at the first top of  the menu of royal-style sweet dishes. Today, you can easily find this unique dish in most of the alleys in Hue city.
